Most physical treatments have a degree of crossover in application and knowledge and are often used in combination to achieve a comprehensive system of treatment.
Understandably, Physiotherapists are often associated only with the treatment of musculo skeletal and neuro muscular problems such as back and neck pain and sprains and strains. However, Chartered Physiotherapists are also trained and work in many other settings such as intensive care, stroke recovery, care of the elderly, cardiac rehabilitation and with respiratory illness. In consulting a Chartered Physiotherapist you are accessing an extremely knowledgeable health professional who will work with and consider the wider picture of any injury, illness or condition.
A serious back injury as a teenager that left him unable to walk for several months and the subsequent recovery through Physiotherapy triggered the interest in following this pathway himself.
Sports Therapy deals with the absolute specifics of injury that can occur during sporting activity. Many Sports Injuries are common only to a particular sport and can be easily misunderstood. Sports Injuries generally result from muscle and joint imbalances that develop over time and through the repetitive action and strengthening often required to play a particular sport. The simple and classic example being Tennis Elbow which can be caused by anything from incorrect grip size or racquet string tension to problematic technique and overuse.
The immense benefits of Sports Massage are generally well known, improved blood flow to the muscles, removal of lactic acid, improvement in recovery time and its use in injury treatment and prevention. Many people with previous experience of Sports Massage have a good idea about what they require and we are more than happy to be guided by yourself should you wish.
If you are new to Sports Massage then we can discuss the variations beforehand.
Deep Tissue Massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue, using deep finger pressure to release chronic muscle tension and knots. It is particularly effective in reducing post injury or post operative scar tissue and helping to return normal movement and reduce pain.
